Charlie Crist and U.S. Senator Mel Martinez proved profitable for the Republican Party of Florida which raised more than $1.6 million, a record for a non-election year, at the party's 2007 Foundation for Victory Dinner on Friday. The Florida GOP is “strong, unified and growing,” RPOF Chairman Jim Greer said at a news conference before the dinner at the downtown Hyatt Regency hotel. The governors appeared at the event after attending Crist’s Florida Climate Change Summit in Miami. See www.MyFloridaClimate.com. In a note to the 900 supporters from throughout Florida who attended the annual event, Crist, in part, wrote, “We must not forget the core Republican principles that make us the party of lower taxes, less government and more freedom. As we share this message with Florida voters, I am confident that we will continue to elect Republican leaders who are willing to take on the big challenges that face the people of our great state . . . we must work actively to remain the party of ideas.” Also attending were Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, Attorney General Bill McCollum, Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles Bronson, Florida Senate President Ken Pruitt, Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, and members of the Florida Senate, House and the Florida Congressional delegation. |
